While observing a mud volcano in Yellowstone National Park looking for a composition, I became fixated on the patterns and maelstroms in the steam. After exploring a few compositions including the mud volcano with the steam, I decided to instead focus on the steam itself. A steam devil spun up and I knew I had my image.

White River National Forest, When standing at the top of a 14,265 foot peak, finding a great composition can be overwhelming. This intimate scene was my favorite from the summit.
A June cornice on the Continental Divide symbolically demarcates the edge of winter and the warm season in the Colorado high country.

While climbing a cinder cone at sunset, my favorite capture was taken facing a nearby cinder cone volcano with the rising moon.
I set out snowshoeing on a bluebird day for the Continental Divide in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest looking to capture bold black and white scenes. However, as I ascended above treeline, it became apparent that the wind had other plans for my day. Nonetheless, I charged into the increasingly strong headwinds towards the summit of the Continental Divide in hopes of capturing a worthy scene. When I made it to the summit of the Continental Divide, I was in a full ground blizzard and visibility rarely exceeded a few meters. At times, this prominent peak appeared into my view so I added these hardy trees into my foreground and waited for the visibility to clear a bit to capture this moody mountain scene.

The only thing in my view at times was this prominent peak so I waited for the visibility to clear just enough to capture this abstract mountain scene.
